Agreement

These terms are the agreement between you and Mahjong Island, LLC for the Mahjong Island website, games, puzzles, Groups, and related services. Playing, creating an account, or continuing to use Mahjong Island means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

The service

Mahjong Island is a streamlined American Mahjong game. A player wins by completing 4 Groups + 1 Pair. You can play against bots, play a daily puzzle, keep a profile, and, with Island Membership, host private games and use Groups. We may add, change, or remove features. Rules of play that are in force are the ones described in the product. The service is for personal entertainment.

Accounts

Play now can start without an account. That visit creates a guest record so the first hand can finish. The next hand asks you to verify an email and keep that same match. An account uses an email address. You can sign in with a magic link, a one-time code, or a password you set later. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping sign-in messages private. Tell us if you believe someone else is using your account.

You choose a username and display name. Do not use a name that impersonates another person or that you are not allowed to use. We may reclaim a name that misleads other players or violates these terms.

Island Membership

Island Membership is $8 per month or $59 per year, paid in the app. Stripe processes the payment. Creating a Group, inviting members, updating a Group, starting a Group game, and hosting a private lobby require an active membership. Joining a Group and accepting an invitation stay free. If a membership ends, Groups you already belong to stay readable.

Fees are charged for the month or year you choose. To change or end a membership, contact Mahjong Island. Ending a membership stops future charges after the current period; we do not provide partial refunds except where the law requires them.

Games, ratings, and puzzles

A finished four-hand match on the standard bot lineup can write one Island Rating result for the human player. Private games and Group games are unranked and do not change that rating. Ratings are whole numbers and do not go below zero. Practice games, guest matches, and matches that do not meet the rated-match rules stay unrated. Puzzle attempts in staff preview are not part of your public record. Your own puzzle progress and finished matches can appear on your profile.

Bots are part of the game. A result against bots is still a result of that match. We may reset, correct, or withhold a rating that came from abuse or from a malfunction.

Groups, lobbies, and invitations

A Group persists across games. A lobby is for one upcoming match. A match has four seats. You may invite someone by email or with an invite link. Send invitations only to people you mean to invite, and only to an address you are allowed to use. Anyone may open an invitation and accept it for free. The host of a lobby can revoke a pending invitation. Do not use Groups or lobbies to harass, spam, or mislead other people.

Your profile and other content

You can add a display name, username, bio, country, language, timezone, and a PNG or JPEG picture. You keep ownership of what you submit. You give Mahjong Island, LLC permission to store it and show it inside the product, including on your public profile and in Groups you join. Your email address is not shown on your public profile. You can edit or remove profile details on Edit Profile. Do not upload anything you do not have rights to share, and do not upload anything illegal or that attacks other people.

Acceptable use

Use Mahjong Island for yourself, in the way the product offers it. You may not:

• probe, scrape, or overload the service, or try to reach another player’s account, a hidden rack, or a non-public system
• disrupt a game, a Group, or the service
• cheat in a way that misstates a match, a rating, or a puzzle result
• upload malware or send spam through invitations or profiles
• use the service if the law where you are prohibits it

We may remove content, end a session, or close an account that breaks these terms.

Our property

Mahjong Island, the tile faces, the software, and the product name belong to Mahjong Island, LLC or its licensors. These terms do not give you ownership of them. You may not copy the product to run a competing service or to redistribute the tile artwork.

Disclaimers and liability

Mahjong Island is provided as available. Games can be interrupted, and features can change. To the extent the law allows, Mahjong Island, LLC disclaims implied warranties, and it is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost ratings, lost matches, or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow us to limit. If we are liable for a membership fee, that liability is limited to the amount you paid for Island Membership in the three months before the claim.

Ending use

You may stop using Mahjong Island at any time. We may suspend or close access if these terms are broken, if we must do so to comply with law, or if we discontinue the service. Sections that by their nature should continue, including ownership, disclaimers, and liability, continue after access ends.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top is the latest version. If a change is material, we will post the new terms on this page before they apply. Continuing to use Mahjong Island after that date means you accept the update.
