Privacy Policy

Who we are
Mahjong Island, LLC operates Mahjong Island. This policy describes the personal information we collect when you play, create an account, join a Group, or buy Island Membership, and how we use it.
Information you give us
- Email address, used to create an account, send a magic link, send a one-time code, or reset a password.
- A password, if you set one. We store it in a form that cannot be read back as the original password.
- Username, display name, bio, country, language, and timezone, if you add them.
- A profile picture, if you upload a PNG or JPEG.
- An email address you enter when you invite someone to a seat or a Group.
Country can be suggested from the network country header when that option is enabled. A country you choose yourself is not overwritten.
Information from play
We store the games you play, including the match, hands, scores, and, when the match qualifies, your Island Rating. A guest Play now game stores a guest player and that match so the first hand can be finished and later attached to an email. An unclaimed guest match expires after 7 days and is not rated. Finished hands can appear on your profile. Opponent concealed tiles stay hidden while a hand is in progress. Daily puzzle progress you complete on your account can be shown with your profile.
Your sign-in token is kept in this browser and expires after 30 days. We store a hash of the token, not the token itself.
Payments
Island Membership is paid through Stripe. Stripe collects the card and billing details needed to charge $8 per month or $59 per year. Mahjong Island does not store your full card number. We keep the membership plan, status, and the payment record we need to know whether the membership is active.
How we use information
- To run games, puzzles, profiles, Groups, lobbies, and invitations.
- To send transactional email: magic links, one-time codes, password resets, and invitations you ask us to send.
- To charge and record Island Membership.
- To calculate Island Rating on matches that qualify, and to show standings inside a match.
- To protect the service, investigate abuse, and keep hidden tiles and other players’ accounts private.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
Other players can see your public profile: username, display name, picture, bio, Island Rating, and the matches and hands the product shows there. They cannot see your email. Players in a Group or a lobby can see that you are seated and the name the product shows for you.
We share information with the companies that run the service for us: Stripe for payments, the email provider that delivers account and invitation messages, and the hosting and storage providers that keep the site and uploaded pictures available. They may use that information only to perform those services. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect players and the service from abuse.
How long we keep it
Account information stays while the account is open. Guest matches that are never claimed expire after 7 days. Sign-in tokens expire after 30 days. Membership and match records can remain after a membership ends so ratings, finished hands, and Groups stay accurate. You may ask us to delete your account. We may keep a limited record where we must do so for security, fraud prevention, or legal reasons.
Your choices
You can play the first hand of Play now before verifying an email. You can edit your profile, skip optional fields, and replace or leave off a picture. You do not have to buy Island Membership to play against bots, solve the daily puzzle, join a Group, or accept an invitation. Email from Mahjong Island that is required to sign in or to deliver an invitation you sent is part of the service, not a mailing list.
Children
Mahjong Island is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top is the latest version. If a change is material, we will post the new policy on this page before it applies.
