A Pair in Mahjong Island is two identical tiles. When a hand on the Island Card asks for a Pair, you need two tiles that match exactly.

Where does a Pair fit in a hand?
A Pair is one of the groups a hand on the card is built from. You win by completing one hand on the Island Card. That hand is 14 tiles that match one line on the card.
Each line is written as groups of identical tiles. A Single is 1 tile, a Pair is 2, a Set is 3, and a Quad is 4. A Pair is simply the two-tile group.

Which tiles can make a Pair?
Any two matching tiles can be your Pair. Numbers, Winds, and Dragons all work. Two East tiles make a Pair, and so do two Red Dragons.
The two tiles must be identical. Two tiles that are only close, like neighboring numbers, are not a Pair.
Can a Joker fill a Pair?
No. A Joker can fill a Set, Quad, Quint, or Sextet, but never a Single or a Pair.
