Is Mahjong Island hard to learn? No. You win by completing one hand on the Island Card, Mahjong Island's own card of hands. A winning hand is 14 tiles that match one line on the card.

The Island Card 2027 has 45 hands in 9 sections. That may sound like a lot. But you only need to complete one of them to win.

What does a hand on the card look like?

Each hand on the card is written as groups of identical tiles. A Pair is 2 matching tiles. A Set (called a pung in traditional mahjong) is 3 matching tiles. A Quad is 4 matching tiles.

A Set: three 7 Dot tiles.

Some lines also ask for numbers in a row, like 1-2-3-4-5, as Singles. A Joker can fill a Set or a Quad. It can never fill a Single or a Pair.

How does a turn work?

Every turn has the same simple rhythm. You hold 13 tiles, draw to 14 on your turn, then discard back to 13.

One tip for your first game

Watch the Hand Cards under your Rack. They show the hands on the card you are closest to. They also show how many tiles away each one is. So you do not need to memorize the card first.

You play against 3 bots. They play by the same rules and never see your hidden tiles.
